  Endowment Opportunties

Permanent endowments provide dependable, long-term income for UTEP, and often afford donors with naming opportunities. Donors can choose to endow scholarships, faculty positions, student enhancement funds or excellence funds in support of UTEP colleges, departments, programs or activities.

Endowment funds are invested in the Long Term Fund and managed by UTIMCO, the investment management arm of the U.T. System. The minimum amount required to establish any endowed fund is $10,000. A donor may create an endowment with an initial donation of 20% of the donor’s total proposed funding and a pledge for the payment of the balance within five years. All funds that would otherwise be distributable from the endowment will be reinvested as a permanent addition to principal until the endowment is funded with the above mentioned minimum required funding.

Faculty Assistance

Faculty positions endowment distributions are made available each year to the individual who holds the endowed position as a salary supplement or for other purposes such as research support, travel, or the purchase of specialized books or equipment.
  • Endowed faculty positions
    • Professorships, minimum $100,000 endowment
    • Distinguished Professorships, minimum $250,000 endowment
    • Chairs, minimum $500,000 endowment
    • Distinguished Chairs, minimum $1 million endowment

Student Assistance
Endowed scholarships provide students with funding for tuition, fees and other costs related to academics. An endowed scholarship can be established for a minimum of $25,000, which creates a partial scholarship.

Scholarships may be designated to a particular department or program, or be tied to a consideration of financial need. Scholarships are usually renewed automatically provided that the student maintains a minimum GPA and course load, but the donor may require that the scholarship be re-awarded annually.

Endowed student enhancement funds support student academic costs beyond tuition and fees, such as travel to out-of-town competitions or performances, purchase of essential supplies for special projects, or stipends for research projects.
