The Championship
In 1966, Coach Don Haskins of Texas Western College (now The University of Texas at El Paso) started -- for the first time in NCAA basketball championship history -- five black players against an all-white Kentucky team.
Representing a breakthrough for blacks in college sports, the TWC Miners defeated the Wildcats for the championship.
The Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Productions film, "Glory Road," based on the story of the 1966 team, was released nationwide on Jan. 13, 2006.
In 2008, Haskins passed away, leaving behind a legendary story of greatness.
